Nancy Kuppersmith, RDN, MS, LD

Licensed and Registered Dietitian and Intuitive Eating Professional, Louisville, Kentucky

I believe that Eating and Health go Hand in Hand!

I also believe that every person’s body has a healthy weight that is both genetically determined and environmentally challenged.

I am a registered dietitian and a certified Intuitive Eating Pro®, and I specialize in weight and body-image issues.  As our bodies physically change throughout our lives, so also do our emotional and physiological responses. As such, I provide individuals with nutritional support in any stage of life. My services include:

Intuitive Eating approach to food, eating, and physical activity.

Groups that help individuals transition into intuitive and mindful eating.

Nutrition counseling for individuals and families.

Nutrition presentations and workshops for groups such as businesses, churches, schools and community organizations.

SERVICES TO HELP NUTRITION AND LIFESTYLE CHANGES

LAST A LIFETIME

There is conflicting information about nutrition in the culture, much of which is erroneous and not universal. As a licensed & registered dietitian,  Certified Intuitive Eating Pro and retired medical school faculty member, I am familiar with the latest scientific research. I use current evidence-based nutrition information to provide reliable, practical, and objective nutrition recommendations for each particular situation.

Nutrition Counseling

Nutrition Counseling offers individuals the information and support they need to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle and comfortable relationship with food. This service can be purchased as individual sessions or in program packages of two or four sessions. These services are available in-person, or by email, via Skype or by phone.

Transition to Intuitive Eating Individual and Group programs

Transition to Intuitive Eating individual and group programs include questionnaires, handouts, discussions and mindful eating experiences.  These activities are designed to help deepen one’s ability to appreciate the body’s signals of hunger and satiety, which helps to stop some of the harmful dieting behaviors.

The individual Transition to Intuitive Eating program consist of 6 sessions can be started most anytime.  After completion of the individual sessions, 'Follow-up Transition to Intuitive Eating' (Follow-up TIE) monthly group support meetings are offered.  The dates, location and times for 'Follow-up TIE' support group meetings, can be found in the 'Events" web  calendar.

PRACTICE POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS

I value your time and want our time together to be as productive as possible. In order to prepare for your session, I may ask you to sign a “Release of Medical Information,” so I may acquire and/or share pertinent information with your medical care and/or mental health provider(s).

My fee is payable at each session. I offer one-cost “Nutrition Programs” or individual sessions. If you choose the Nutrition Program charge, the total cost is due at the first session. The Nutrition Program cost or individual session is for office visits only. Any extra services are charged an additional fee, i.e., individual meal planning outside of session time, recipe/nutritional analysis, weekly weight checks, etc. I try to accommodate scheduling conflicts and am happy to reschedule sessions that are cancelled with adequate notice, but there are no refunds for unused sessions.

If you need to cancel an appointment, please give me as much advance notice as possible. INITIAL APPOINTMENTS that are not cancelled 48 hours in advance will necessitate a full-fee charge except in the cases of an emergency. For subsequent appointments, the requirement is 24 hours in advance. You can reach me by phone or email.

Many employers now have a flexible spending account for health care. If you have a FSA, nutrition services are often reimbursed if filed with a doctor’s referral.

I do not contract with insurance providers. If you desire insurance reimbursement, please check with your insurance company or company employee benefits administrator to see if your medical/nutrition issue is reimbursed by insurance and my credentials are covered. If you want insurance reimbursement, you will need to fill out the required paperwork. I will provide you with a statement. I regret that I do not have the resources to file individual insurance. Below are some questions to ask your insurance carrier to see if medical nutrition therapy will be covered under your particular plan.

1. Is my diagnosis covered?
2. Are nutrition services reimbursable as an “Out of Network” provider?
3. How much of the cost of each session will insurance cover?
4. What is my annual deductible and how much of that deductible has been met?
5. Where and to whom should claims be mailed?
6. Do I have to submit my claim on a HCFA 1500 form?
7. Do sessions need to be pre-certified in ordered to be covered?

During our time together, please feel free to ask me any questions concerning the above information or share any feelings you have about my approach or your progress. Our sessions together will be kept confidential, except where law prohibits. I look forward to working with you and hope that nutrition therapy will be an enlightening and healthy experience for you.
