Nancy Kuppersmith, RDN, MS, LD

Licensed and Registered Dietitian and Intuitive Eating Professional, Louisville, Kentucky

I believe that Eating and Health go Hand in Hand!

I also believe that every person’s body has a healthy weight that is both genetically determined and environmentally challenged.

I am a registered dietitian and a certified Intuitive Eating Pro®, and I specialize in weight and body-image issues.  As our bodies physically change throughout our lives, so also do our emotional and physiological responses. As such, I provide individuals with nutritional support in any stage of life. My services include:

Intuitive Eating approach to food, eating, and physical activity.

Groups that help individuals transition into intuitive and mindful eating.

Nutrition counseling for individuals and families.

Nutrition presentations and workshops for groups such as businesses, churches, schools and community organizations.

I am a registered and licensed dietitian. I specialize in weight and body image issues over the lifespan. I also encourage the quest for nutrition improvement at any stage.

Retired from the faculty of the Department of Family and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine after over thirty years of service. I taught medical students, residents, and faculty the practical aspects of nutrition and wellness.

For over twenty years, I have also operated a private nutrition consulting practice and have counseled patients who have health issues with specific nutritional needs. In both my practice and through community workshops, I help clients and families who struggle with weight and food issues. I am also a Certified Intuitive Eating Pro, which helps facilitate my efforts to prevent and treat eating disorders. I am a member of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals.(IAEDP)

I believe there is a healthy weight in every body that is both genetically determined and environmentally challenged! Sadly, many today eat to conform to the cultural ideal of unnaturally thin rather than eat to be healthy and invigorated. I teach people how to eat to fuel their bodies so they can live life to the fullest rather than be limited by what society dictates. This philosophy drives my recommendations on healthy eating. Though I am schooled in traditional evidenced-based health and nutrition recommendations, I also encourage people to be mindful of what their bodies are communicating and use that information to make healthy eating and food decisions.

The latest research reveals that in order to change behavior, one often needs to undergo an intensive program of information, inspiration, coaching and long-term commitment. I have spent many years learning, tweaking and staying abreast of the latest techniques that help people be the healthiest they can be. I encourage a “team approach” to health and wellness care and will collaborate with other health care professionals as needed and desired.

I am encouraged by the findings in the literature on eating disorder prevention and have a strong commitment to being part of that prevention effort. Eating disorders are very complex illnesses with multi-faceted causes. Nutrition plays a significant role in both the development and treatment of these illnesses. Because of the increasing evidence of nutrition’s role in the prevention of eating disorders, I offer individual and group programs to address this unique perspective.

I have had several articles published in both business and professional journals, give presentations at both professional and community organizations, and have co-led many eating disorder and weight loss groups over the years.

I am a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), Kentucky Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (KAND) , and International Federation of Eating Disorder Dietitians (IFEDD).

I was named Outstanding Alumni of the Year at University of Wisconsin-Stout where I received an undergraduate degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. I completed a dietetic internship and received a Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Kentucky.
